Recently I’ve encountered people who ask what I do for a living. When I say I’m a Reiki Master, I’m usually met with blank stares. The occasional person knows snippets about Reiki, like: “energy healing” or “something to do with the chakras.” I’ve also encountered skeptics who politely say “I don’t believe in that,” or say nothing but fill the space of our exchange with a thick silence which speaks louder than words! I am not interested in convincing the skeptics. But what I find really ironic (and funny) is that my husband, a logical, rational thinker, was skeptical about the power of Reiki after I first learned it. After he received one session from me, he knew that it worked because his pain went away. Now he regularly asks me to Reiki his aches and pains. He also asks me often to Reiki a situation at work he is bothered by and it always works out. My dear husband now swears by Reiki and wouldn’t have it any other way!
The beauty of Reiki is in its simplicity. It is a non-invasive healing system to help your body, mind, and emotions to heal from trauma, or general stress. Laurelle Gaia writes that a strong life force energy helps produce good health, and a diminished life force contributes to illness. 75 to 95 percent of all visits to doctors are the results of our reaction to stress. Medical research has found that stress can prevent the body’s natural ability to repair and renew itself.
Reiki helps the body to release stress and tension by gently but powerfully relaxing one’s energy system. We all have energy centres called “chakras.” Our chakras allow life force to move through our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Reiki effectively opens and clears the chakras and promotes health and healing.
After a Reiki session, my clients have reported feeling “very relaxed,” a “deep heaviness,” or of “feeling lighter,” of going “into a trance,” and “melting into the Reiki table.” One first time client claimed that he “never felt anything like that before.” Another person said she felt “different.” Others have told me that the “pain lifted,” and many have asked me if they could keep sleeping on my comfy, fluffy table even though their Reiki session had ended!
The flow of Reiki through one’s energy bodies, says Diane Ruth Shewmaker, helps to lift physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual “toxins” that have built up over the years. Toxic buildup happens as the result of injuries, illnesses, poor health, pollutants and trauma throughout our lives. Much of this lifting or releasing is gentle. Sometimes the manifestations are more noticeable, and physically painful and may take several hours, days, weeks or even months to exit your energy system. Sometimes we need to experience pain in order to heal and that’s okay. Healing is not about all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes it’s emotionally, physically and spiritually painful work.
Reiki gives you what you need – it is pure, nonjudgmental energy directed into your body. You are connecting with everything that is – with “limitless love.” I think Mehmet Murat Ildan says it best…
Expel yourself from your mind, clean yourself from yourself, and then the universe will settle in the space you left! If you get rid of the small one – which is the very you — then the big one – the universe – will fill you up!
I am blessed to have a beautiful healing system in my life. I feel the universal love all around and within me every time I share Reiki with someone. Reiki works! It really, really works!
