The holidays can be joyful for many — a time to get together with friends and family to exchange gifts and feast. But for so many, Christmas can be a time of financial burden and incredible stress. It can also be stressful for those introverted souls who aren’t fond of socializing.

It’s everywhere — social media, TV, radio, and films — images of happy people celebrating. But what if you don’t feel like that? What if you don’t want to participate in everything and socialize, pretending everything’s OK when you’re not feeling it?
There may be those who also feel left out, different or lonely in a crowd. You’re not alone! I’ve felt those nawing feelings of disconnectedness as well. You’re doing everything you think you’re supposed to do, but you still feel like a an imposter.
Dr. Chibber suggests not to be so hard on yourself but to acknowledge and accept your feelings. When you’re feeling low, and not interested in going out or hosting a party, don’t do it! You may tell yourself to do it because of “tradition” or because you feel you’ll let others down.
When you do things to please others, or to be like others, or keep the peace, you let yourself down. You also jeopardize your peace of mind, happiness, and our personal sovereignty.
During the holidays it’s especially important to set boundaries. Listen to your body, and listen to your mind. If you’re feeling tired, honour that, and reschedule. You may disappoint some. But ask yourself this: is my comfort worth sacrificing for the comfort of others?
If you’re feeling blue, scattered, or out of sorts, here’s a quick five minute fireside* meditation to help ease your tension and worry. It’ll also help you to reduce rumination and fear and anchor you in the present moment. No time? Do it for half an hour!!!
*You can also do this by a window, or outdoors while on a walk, run or cycle.
Fireside Meditation

Wrap yourself in your favourite blanket and get cozy. Sit and just listen to the sound of your breath, the inhale and exhale.
Become aware of…
5 things you see
4 things you can touch
3 things you hear
2 things you smell
1 thing you taste
Keep paying attention to these things until you are fully relaxed and ready to move on with you day or evening.
